FAQs
What is health coaching? How does it differ from other types of coaching, personal training or counseling?
Health coaching is a collaborative and personalized program that focuses on improving health and wellness. It builds an individual’s capacity to achieve short- and long-term health and fitness goals. Participants interact one-on-one with their coach by email and online journal.
Unlike personal training or counseling, the participant is the expert with health coaching. Whether the individual is working toward general wellness or a more specific health-related issue, our focus is on enhancing quality of life, not on “fixing” a particular physical or emotional issue—although issues may become goals. Our coaches guide, motivate, provide customized resources, and help clients to set achievable goals. They do not diagnose, prescribe, or give advice. Our coaches use their expertise to provide clients with tools, not opinions.
The coach’s role won’t be just to ask if clients have done their crunches for the day (although the coach will if you want him/her to); the coach’s role is to help clients identify and achieve whatever goals they set for improved vitality and to coordinate the many resources available to them through this and other programs.
Do individuals have to have a serious health issue to benefit from a health coach?
No. We know that no two people are exactly the same and individual health status may vary from day to day. Health coaches help clients assess their level of health and well-being and work on the issues at hand, providing the human touch to motivate them toward setting and achieving goals through a personalized plan of action. If clients do need to modify their lifestyle due to an issue such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and/or musculoskeletal injuries, our staff of degreed and highly trained experts can assist.
Who are the coaches?
Our coaches are high-level, seasoned professionals, experienced in behavioral change and in serving moderate-risk and sedentary, high-risk and high-stress populations. They hold four year degrees in health and fitness-related fields, and the majority are Master's degreed.
I'm not sure health coaching is right for my employees. How do I decide?
Your employees' unique skills and talents are necessary for optimal business performance. If they are not at their best, neither is your company’s bottom line. Simply put, whether it's to achieve personal health and lifestyle goals or to improve your overall business performance, your employees and your company will benefit from your relationship with a coach.
How much time will coaching take?
The time your employees devote to coaching is entirely at their discretion.
Communication between employees and their Personal Health Coach will be as often as needed and will be determined on an individual basis. They will be paired with a coach who will remain with them throughout their entire coaching process. Communication can range from every day to once per week or less whether it is by email, journal or a combination of both.
If employees prefer to spend more time learning about their challenges and solutions, they will have access to a comprehensive library of lifestyle education and resource materials, hand-selected by their coach specifically for them. These resources come from nationally acclaimed resource providers.
